The absence of software updates can cause IntelliJ IDEA to crash. It is recommended to install the latest available updates for developer products.

Changing the default program in Windows

1. Right-click your file, then navigate to the "Open With" option and click "Choose Another Application" to continue;
2. Choose IntelliJ IDEA from the available applications listed in the pop-up window to set it as the default application to open your file;
3. Be sure to check the "Always use this app" checkbox, and then click "OK" to confirm your selection.

Set default app to open files on Mac

1. Right click or use Control + left click on the desired file to launch the file options menu;
2. Select "Open in application" and click "Other";
3. In the lower section of the window, you’ll find the "Enable" menu, with "Recommended Programs" pre-selected as the default option;
4. Select "All Programs" in this menu, and then search for IntelliJ IDEA. Check the box next to "Always open in app" to make sure it’s the default option.
